Indications/Uses
Psychosomatic disorders w/ asthenic reactions. Depression involving anxiety, asthenia & lack of initiative. Chronic neuroses w/ anxiety, depression & inactivity. Acute & situational anxiety & tension states in which sedative hypnotic effect is not required, especially when patients are considered in danger of abusing minor tranquillizers.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Low dosage: Initially 0.5 mg bd, may be adjusted later w/in range: 0.5-3 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Extremely excitable & overactive patients. Acute alcohol, barbiturate & opiate poisoning. Patients w/ bone marrow depression & in comatose states.
Special Precautions
Convulsive disorders or CV disease. Severe hepatic impairment. Not to be given during pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Restlessness, insomnia, drowsiness. Rarely extrapyramidal symptoms, if recommended dose is exceeded.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced response to alcohol, barbiturates & other CNS depressants. Blocked antihypertensive effects of guanethidine or similar compd. Reduced effect of l-dopa & adrenergic drugs. Increased risk of extrapyramidal symptoms w/ metoclopramide & piperazine.
